The 32-year-old Hartford County man was found around when police responded to a Unionville home for a report of a shooting at around 11 p.m., Wednesday, March 16.

When officers responded to the home on Sunset Terrace they discovered the man lying in bed with multiple gunshot wounds, said Lt. Tim McKenzie, of the Farmington Police.

Medical personnel from the Police and Fire Departments and AMR ambulance began lifesaving medical care for the victim, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin,

The man was transported to St. Francis Hospital and later pronounced dead at 12:10 a.m. Thursday, March 17.

A 24-year-old male suspect, who lived at the same home had fled in the man's vehicle, McKenzie said.

The vehicle description was broadcast over the radio, and a Farmington Police officer located the suspect driving east on Route 4, McKenzie said.

The car entered I-84 westbound, where Farmington officers were able to forcibly stop the vehicle, he added.

The suspect was taken into custody and brought back to the Farmington Police Department where he was charged with:

  • Murder
  • Criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Risk of injury to a child
  • Reckless endangerment.

He is being held on a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

"Both the victim and suspect live together at Sunset Terrace," McKenzie said.

The suspect will be identified once family members have been notified, he added.
